Trek 7: Toucan Trail

Trekker David Jessop reports being discouraged from undertaking this walk alone, by two residents of Yunguillas in February 2004. They insisted that he take a local guide. David persevered on his own, however, experienced no difficulty and very much enjoyed the trek.

Locals may sometimes make a trek seem more difficult than it is because they would appreciate guiding work. On the other hand, their knowledge of the area and of hazards which may have arisen since the book was published is not to be underestimated. We suggest listening carefully to what folks have to say and then making your own decision.

At the same time, we remind potential lone trekkers of our warnings on page 38. It is much safer to trek with companions.
